Strawberry Day was created to celebrate those little red fruits bursting with sweet perfection! A gift from Chile in the 1700s, garden strawberry plants made their way to North America in the 1750s. The plant is fairly easy to grow and doesn’t seem adverse to flourishing anywhere in the world. If you’d like your own homegrown strawberries this summer, make sure your plant has full sun and sandy soil – and your dogs don’t eat off all the berries before you can pick a few. If fresh strawberries aren’t at their best in your grocery store, don’t forget the many accessible forms you can always get your hands on. Frozen and dried strawberries can help in a pinch if you’re creating in the kitchen. Strawberry preserves, ice cream, yogurt, smoothies and milkshakes are nothing to shake a stick at

This Tuesday is officially Pokemon Day and celebrations for the renowned franchise will be happening all over the world. I’m not too sure if we will get any reveals but if we do that would be fantastic. We know that Pokemon is currently in development for the Nintendo Switch and it would appear as though its currently being localised, which would mean a release for this year. We shall have to wait and see! Okay, so it's not a national holiday and a reason to have the day off work/school/college (and it definitely should be), but it's a great excuse to celebrate all things small, monstrous and Japanese. You can use the official #PokemonDay hashtag to share your Poké-related celebrations, so be sure to tag us on Twitter so we can all share in the love.   &nb

Pistachios are not just eaten as a snack – they are also used in cooking, while their sweet flavour sometimes finds them used in desserts, such as Lebanese dish baklava. You can sometimes find pistachio ice cream alongside more common flavours such as chocolate or strawberry. Studies have even suggested th

The bartender is everyone’s favourite person on a night out. They will keep you well supplied in beverages – probably of an alcoholic variety – at any bar or pub you happen to visit, as long as you have enough money and aren’t too drunk to be served! World Bartender Day is the day to appreciate the staff in your local bar. They work hard to keep their customers happy and often don’t get paid very well! Remember to always be friendly to the bartender, especially by being patient if you have to wait to be served. Give the bartender a smile and say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ – the bartender will appreciate it and you are more likely to get better service next time you buy a drink. Most importantly, if you’re in a country where tipping is expected, make sure you tip appropriately! An odd occ
